# What is an SEC code?

SEC code

An SEC code is the Nacha Standard Entry Class that describes how an ACH item was authorized and what kind of account it hits. PPD is a consumer credit or debit you authorized on paper. WEB is an internet-authorized consumer debit. CCD is corporate. The code changes return windows and what you are allowed to file.

## How does an SEC code work?

Every ACH entry carries a three-letter class. The operator and the RDFI use it to apply the right rules. A consumer debit filed as CCD can come back as unauthorized. A payroll credit is usually PPD. Your processor will reject or return a file that uses the wrong class.

## Why developers care

The code is a field you send, not a footnote. It belongs on the payment method and on the transaction. When a return arrives, the code tells you which deadline applied. Do not hard-code WEB for every debit.

| Code | Typical use |
| --- | --- |
| PPD | Consumer payroll, authorized debit |
| WEB | Consumer debit authorized online |
| CCD | Corporate credit or debit |
| IAT | International ACH |

## How it works with Blnk

Put the SEC code in metadata on the ACH transaction. Blnk does not validate Nacha rules. Your originator software does. The field is how you explain the item later.
